Justice Iftar

At a time when the Muslim Ban was still in effect, TPS had been revoked for many communities, and undocumented community members were being deported and murdered, the Justice for Muslims Collective (JMC) organized a public iftar during Ramadan at Freedom Plaza to demand justice. The event brought diverse communities and organizations together, like GABRIELA DC, ICHRP DMV group, Katarungan, Migrante DMV, Anakbayan Maryland, Kamalayan, Do Good, March 4 Racial Justice, API Resistance, Many Languages One Voice (MLOV), Empower DC, Jewish Voice for Peace, DMV Muslims Making Change, American Muslims for Palestine, Collective Action For Safe Spaces (CASS), etc.

The Sanctuaries was invited to design and screenprint wearable protest art that was distributed to speakers and attendees. These cloth patches attracted media attention and communicated a clear message of unity and strength in a culturally relevant way. In fact, JMC has since used the image for other organizing efforts.
